Throughout the year, the area around Lake Garda sees the staging of a wide range of events, encompassing everything from food and wine extravaganzas to regattas, sporting contests, historical re-enactments and traditional festivals.
In summer, a whole series of regattas takes place on Lake Garda, the most celebrated of which are the Regatta delle Bisse, the Sailing Trophy Challenge (‘Trofeo di Vela’) and the Palio delle Mura, a fashionable race around the fortified walls of the town of Peschiera del Garda. That town also provides the backdrop for one of the area’s most important historical re-enactments, which involves a different battle being played out every year. With everyone in period costume, land and sea battles are re-enacted and military camps and ancient workshops reconstructed, as the town takes a temporary leap backwards in time.
In addition, Salò provides the venue for the annual International Violin Festival, which attracts artists, famed luthiers and crowds of violin lovers.
